Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the tape. Our green polyester tape (VGT215) handles up to 400°F, orange polyester up to 425°F, and glass cloth and polyimide tapes reach 500°F. For caps and plugs, silicone withstands up to 600°F and EPDM up to 350°F.
Yes! We slit tape to any custom width at no extra charge, even for a single roll. Our digitally-controlled Cevennini slitters can produce widths from 0.062" to 60". Most custom orders ship same day.
Tapered plugs are usually the first choice for masking blind holes because they are low cost and easy to use. For holes that go through a part (where you can see daylight on the other side), a pull plug is often faster and easier, assuming the thickness of the part is 1" or less. See our thread sizing guide for specific recommendations.
Yes. Silicone plugs and caps are reusable and will withstand up to 600°F. They are also chemically resistant for use in anodizing and plating baths including nickel, chrome, and sulfuric acid.

For stock items, there is no minimum order — you can buy a single roll or bag. For custom slitting orders, the minimum is $50. Custom die cuts and molded parts are quoted on a per-project basis.
Stock items typically ship same day if ordered before our carrier pickup time. Custom slit tapes usually ship same day as well. Custom die cuts and molded parts have lead times that vary by project.
Yes, 30-day open accounts are available for customers with satisfactory credit rating or references. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, company checks, money orders, and wire transfers.
Silicone plugs withstand higher temperatures (up to 600°F vs 350°F for EPDM) and are typically used for powder coating and e-coating. EPDM plugs have superior chemical resistance and are often preferred for anodizing and plating where carbon can be safely introduced to tanks. EPDM is also generally less expensive.
Yes. We design custom silicone and EPDM rubber caps and plugs using 3D CAD software. We partner with both American and overseas molders for compression molding. Options include single-cavity prototypes, 3D-printed test parts, and multi-cavity production tooling. Call 866-534-3900 to discuss your project.
