Printable Tapered Plug Sizing Guide & 1:1 Scale Matching Charts
How to Identify and Size TAPERED Silicone Plugs for Powder Coating, Anodizing, and E-Coating
Quick Guide
- Print the Chart: Download the 1:1 scale PDF below.
- Verify Scale: Check the 6-inch ruler at the bottom of the printout with a physical ruler to ensure “No Scaling” was applied while printing.
- Physical Match: Place your unknown plug directly onto the silhouettes. Use top and bottom diameters for width identification. Use side view only for length determination.
- Select by Hole Size: For new projects, choose a plug where the hole diameter falls between 1/3 to 2/3 of the plug’s taper – ideally aiming for the halfway mark for the best seal.

Important: Both charts must be printed without scaling to maintain 1:1 accuracy. Turn off scaling when printing and check that the ruler measures a full 6 inches.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the temperature rating?
Our silicone tapered plugs are designed for industrial ovens, resisting temperatures up to 600°F (315°C), making them ideal for powder coating and e-coating cycles.
How do I select for a threaded hole?
For threaded holes, we recommend choosing a plug where the major diameter of the thread falls between 1/3 to 2/3 the plug’s top and bottom diameters. See also: Viadon’s Threaded Holes Masking Plugs Chart.
Can these be reused in chemical baths?
Yes. These silicone plugs are specifically engineered for chemical resistance in anodizing, electroplating, and acid washing environments.
Are these suitable for jewelry or personal use?
No. These are industrial-grade masking products specifically designed for high-temperature finishing processes like powder coating, ecoating, anodizing and plating. They are not suitable for medical or personal use.
